Good News from Rome
The Diocese of Baker rejoices at the election of Pope Leo XIV.
His new name stirs our diocesan memory, for it was Pope Leo XIII who established the Diocese of Baker and named its first bishop in 1903.
In his first homily as Successor to Peter, the Holy Father described the hope in his heart as he takes up his new mission: “It is to move aside so that Christ may remain, . . . to give [myself] to the utmost so that all may have the opportunity to know and love Him.”
May God grant Pope Leo every grace he will need to make his hope come true.

Pope Francis, the 265th Pontiff of the Catholic Church, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 in his residence at the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
At 9:45 AM (Roman Time) on Easter Monday, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, spoke these words at the Casa Santa Marta:
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”
Please join the Church, world-wide, in praying for Pope Francis, and for the repose of his soul.
